Proposals for the redevelopment of a rundown warehouse complex into a logistics centre including 1 million sq ft of buildings, car and lorry park were met with significant local objections.
Approach
Another communications firm had managed local engagement and the application failed by 10 votes to 2. This company was disinstructed and TFA appointed because it had greater depth of knowledge. An audit and broad programme of engagement followed including both with residents, the business community and key stakeholders.
Results
When the application went to committee it had a significant level of community support where a resident petition had by this stage more signatures than the petition against. The committee voted by significant majority to approve the application. The local MP submitted a “call-in” request and further to briefings the Minister announced there would be no “call-in” of the application. The committee voted by 10 votes to 4 in favour.
